Sunday, March 13th, 2011, 4:00 p.m.
Church of St Thomas Aquinas, Hudson
St. Lawrence Choir (dir. Michael Zaugg) with the St. Anne Singers (dir. Margo Keenan)
Works by Hindemith, Debussy, Ravel, Gagnon, Ouimet, Daunais
Imagine you are walking through a wing of a musical museum. On one wall you see three French watercolours, on another wall you see three oriental miniatures and, on a third wall there are two sets of contemporary works. At this concert you will ‘see’ the “Trois Chansons” of Debussy, move on to Gagnon’s “Chansons d’Orient” and through the contemporary “Six Chansons” by Hindemith. In the middle of the museum is the “Triptyque Nordique” itself by Canadian composer Francois Ouimet. As you prepare to leave, you also have Ravel’s “Trois Chansons” on display and, as with all museums, the works are interspersed with other individual pieces of interest.
