ST. LAWRENCE CHOIR ANNOUNCES NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Following an extensive search process, St. Lawrence Choir is delighted to announce Philippe Bourque as its new Artistic Director.
Since 2006, upon completion of his studies in Choral Directing at McGill University under Julian Wachner, Philippe Bourque has gained vast experience in the choral world holding posts with the Chœur du Musée d’art de Joliette, Des Petits Chanteurs de la Cathédrale, McGill’s Simply Sweetly (now Les Muses Chorale) , Vincent d’Indy School of Music, and F.A.C.E. school.
Maestro Bourque currently holds positions as the choral director at Vanier College and music director of Terrebonne-Mascouche Baptist Church.
“We are delighted to welcome Philippe Bourque to St. Lawrence Choir and look forward to this new chapter in the choir’s forty-two year history,” states the choir’s president Tatjana Paul. “Philippe will be the choir’s fourth director since its creation in 1972 by Iwan Edwards and his appointment continues the tradition of having a highly experienced choral director at the helm.”
St. Lawrence choir has already worked with Philippe Bourque on a number of occasions, including concert preparations for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s 75th Anniversary concert directed by Kent Nagano (2009), the world première of La Terra Promessa by Robert Frederick Jones with Vanier College (2011), and as part of the Verdi Gala Festival Chorus at the Lanaudière International Music Festival for Jean-Marie Zeitouni (2013).

ST. LAWRENCE CHOIR
St. Lawrence choir is a 40-60 strong mixed-voice ensemble that performs music from all choral repertoires as well as contemporary works by Canadian and other composers. In addition to its subscription season concerts, the choir is regularly invited to appear at the International Music Festival of Lanaudière. It has also worked on collaborative projects with the Cantata Singers Ottawa, the Montreal Choral Institute, Vanier College and the Chœur du Musée d’art de Joliette.
St. Lawrence choir was formed in 1972 by Iwan Edwards. For almost 25 years, it appeared regularly with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal as the largest component of the MSO chorus and made numerous recordings with the symphony. After the retirement of maestro Edwards, the Choir was under the direction of Marika Kuzma during the 2007/08 season; she was succeeded by Michael Zaugg from 2008 to 2013. The current 2013-14 season sees a number of distinguished guest conductors working with the ensemble.
